Who are we

The Infrastructure Operations Team's role is to"Enable the Service" through driving our partners in providing the Bank with the Technology required to run the business, securing the Customers and Banks data, improving stability and remaining current in order to provide a world-class service.

What's the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team responsible for ensuring that the Bank of Ireland's data and devices are appropriately secured through proactive patch and secure configuration management. This is a key component of the effective management of IT and IS risk within the Bank.

The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new knowledge and skills in relation to securing the Bank's IT assets and to apply his / her experience to positively impact the continuous improvement of the services provided by the team.

Key Accountabilities

Working closely with the other areas in Technology Services, the Bank's service provider(s) and Group Information Security (GIS) to:

  • Ensure the Bank's risk level in relation to Security Vulnerabilities and Secure Configuration deviations is kept within appetite by driving initiatives to improve quality of Anti-Virus, Patching and Secure Configuration management through effective governance and technical oversight of the Bank's Service Provision partners
  • Take ownership of the proactive monitoring and remediation of a cohort of IS vulnerabilities on the Bank's estate
  • Provide appropriate technical assistance with, and drive action plans to address Threat Intelligence received from internal and external sources
  • Ensure sufficient controls for Patching, Vulnerability Management and Secure Configuration are in place and implemented - and are regularly reviewed and updated - to support Bank's strategic non-financial risk objectives
  • Provide technical support, guidance and expertise to support the delivery of the services provided by TS's Security Support Services team
  • Contribute Secure Configuration, Vulnerability Management and Patching Domain Expertise to incident / problem management as required
  • Contribute to improvement of vulnerability prioritisation processes using the Bank's vulnerability management tooling
  • Produce MIS for Vulnerability Management and Secure Configuration - including management reports, important metric production and ad hoc requests
  • Contribute to improvement in area's overall efficiency through automation
Crucial Qualifications
  • Proven knowledge of / qualifications relating to Wintel and Unix/Linux Operating Systems
  • 3rd level degree in a relevant IT / IS subject area or equivalent level of experience in provision of security support related services - patching, vulnerability management and remediation and anti-malware
Crucial Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrable experience working in an IT Operations environment, preferably having worked in an outsourced service environment
  • Ability to drive effective governance of service provision partners to ensure area objectives are achieved
  • Good knowledge of Windows, Unix/Linux operating systems and Networking technologies
  • Must have good communication skills and be comfortable dealing with both technical and business audiences at varying levels of seniority in the organisation!
Desirable Qualifications Skills & Experience
  • Some proficiency with SQL Server / MS Access and MIS reporting tools
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management tooling
  • Ability to deal optimally with varying levels of technical and organisational complexity
  • Knowledge or risk management principles
  • Knowledge of Anti-Malware tooling - MS Defender, SEP, Trend Micro
  • Project Management experience / qualification
  • A background in Financial Services is bonus but not mandatory
